Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Unlocking and Exploring Kapp'n's Family Hotel (2026)

Get ready for a vacation-themed adventure in the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons! The 3.0 Update brings a brand-new feature to your island: Kapp'n's Family Hotel, a.k.a. the Resort Hotel. But here's the twist—it's not just any hotel; it's run by the beloved character Kapp'n's family!

Unlocking the Hotel:

Most players will find the hotel already unlocked, as it seems to become available after upgrading Resident Services to a building with a plaza. Isabelle will make the grand announcement on the island broadcast, signaling the start of your hotel journey.

Day 1: The Grand Opening:

Head to the pier on the southern coast, where you'll find the hotel. Kapp'n, his wife Leilani, and Tom Nook will greet you, explaining that the guest rooms need your design expertise. Talk to Leilani to begin with Room 1, themed as the 'Seaside Room.'

Designing Rooms:

Use the 'Recommended' tab for theme-matching items, and don't worry about owning them all; you can still use them! Decorate with the Decorating Mode, customize items with a paint brush icon, and use the Camera App for room photos. And if you're feeling adventurous, add all interesting items at once and arrange them later.

Grams' Souvenir Shop:

Similar to Nook's Cranny, this shop offers exclusive items that change daily. Buying from the physical shop is cheaper than ordering from the catalog, and the stock expands as you attract more guests to the hotel.

Room 2: Theme Choices:

Choose between 'Japanese Room' and 'Modern Room' for Room 2. If you want to change the theme, exit the room, and Leilani will ask if you want to quit. Do so, and you can start over with a new theme.

Tom Nook's DIY Requests:

Tom Nook tasks you with crafting DIY items for Kapp'n to promote the island. You'll find DIY Requests outside the hotel, but materials aren't listed. Check the new tab in your DIY Recipes menu or the crafting menu of DIY benches for details. The first four requests of the day offer double Hotel Tickets! And a fun tip: you can place furniture and a Storage Shed on the pier for easy access!

Day 2: Fashionable Guests:

Leilani introduces Hotel Outfits, which guests and visitors can wear. Customize them, but remember, animal guests won't wear pants, socks, or shoes. Rooms 3 and 4 await with themes like 'Simple Room' and 'Kiddie Room,' and you'll earn 200 Hotel Tickets for each.

Days 3 & 4: Decorating Marathon:

On these days, you'll decorate up to two rooms daily, choosing from various themes. Check Grams' Souvenir Shop, as it will have expanded its stock. Themes include 'Skyscraper Room,' 'Lodge Room,' 'Exquisite Room,' and more.

Day 5: VIP Treatment:

Leilani reveals the VIP Room, which operates differently. You must manually invite a Villager, and the room needs a complete redesign for each new guest. Drop the VIP guest into the room with the left stick for better visualization. Scan amiibo figures to invite specific characters to the VIP Room.

Hotel Expansion:

After the VIP Room, you can redecorate the original eight rooms, and Leilani will reward you daily for a complete redesign. The Standard Rooms now offer 15 themes, while the VIP Room has 45 themes. And Grams' shop continues to expand!

And there you have it—a comprehensive guide to Kapp'n's Family Hotel. But wait, there's more! What's your favorite part of this new feature? Do you enjoy the creative freedom of designing rooms, or is it the excitement of attracting new guests? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and let's keep the conversation going!
