A Pole Position Record-Breaker
Sebastien Buemi, the Swiss racing legend and Season 2 Formula E Champion, has done it again! He's claimed his 17th Julius Baer Pole Position, tying him with Jean-Eric Vergne at the top of the all-time list. This achievement comes after a qualifying drought, with his last pole position in Berlin during Season 9. Buemi's speed and expertise have been on full display this weekend, and he's ready to hunt down his first win at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit.
But here's where it gets controversial... Buemi was handed the pole position after Taylor Barnard, driving for DS PENSKE, had his lap time deleted due to a track limits violation in the Final. Barnard will start second, with Edoardo Mortara and Mitch Evans close behind.
Qualifying Drama Unveiled
One of the biggest stories from qualifying is Pascal Wehrlein's unexpected struggle. Known for his strength in Mexico City, Wehrlein failed to progress to the Duels and will start in 11th position. On the other hand, Buemi's impressive form continued, beating Oliver Rowland in the Quarter Finals, a feat not achieved since Wehrlein's win here last year.
In the Finals, Buemi faced off against Barnard, and it seemed like DS PENSKE was headed for pole position until Barnard's last-corner violation handed the advantage to Buemi.
Group Battles and Surprises
Group A saw Jake Dennis continue his strong performance, topping FP1 and finishing at the top of his group. However, it was Antonio Felix da Costa who just missed out on a chance in the Duels, despite a brake-by-wire issue earlier in the day.
Group B had its fair share of surprises too. Sebastien Buemi, looking rapid for Envision, topped his group. But the biggest shock was two-time winner Pascal Wehrlein being knocked out, settling for sixth in his group.
