Another year has passed, and with it, a tapestry of shared experiences that bind us together. Lady Susan Haughey CBE, the Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, extends her warmest greetings to everyone in the region as we reflect on the past year. It's truly an honor, she notes, to serve and to witness the remarkable spirit that defines Lanarkshire.
Throughout 2025, the Lieutenancy has been involved in numerous significant events, creating moments of joy, remembrance, and shared pride. We celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE-Day and paid our respects during Remembrance events, commemorating 80 years since Armistice, honoring those who sacrificed for our freedom.
We also recognized outstanding voluntary groups through the King’s Award for Voluntary Service and successful businesses with the King's Award for Enterprise. Welcoming new citizens at ceremonies, witnessing the growth of young people in schools, and celebrating milestone birthdays and anniversaries within our communities were also highlights. These occasions highlight the kindness, resilience, and generosity that are the heart of our communities. Lady Haughey expresses her gratitude to North and South Lanarkshire Councils and every Deputy Lieutenant for their unwavering dedication. Together, they continue to support the Armed Forces, champion voluntary organizations, acknowledge achievements, and strengthen the bonds with the people of Lanarkshire.
One of the year's highlights was the 'Together at Christmas' Carol Concert at Bellshill and Bothwell Parish Church. This event beautifully showcased the community coming together for an evening of carols, readings, and reflection.
Looking ahead to 2026, Lady Haughey is filled with hope and excitement for future achievements. She anticipates meeting more of you at community events across the county. Wishing everyone a peaceful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
