The forthcoming release of Judy Davis’ film, ‘Holy Days,’ is poised to make waves in U.S. theaters, thanks to Blue Fox Entertainment, which has scheduled its debut for March 27. This film marks the directorial debut of Nat Boltt, known for her role in Riverdale, and features an impressive cast that includes Judy Davis, Miriam Margolyes, Jacki Weaver, and the promising young actor Elijah Tamati.
In addition to its U.S. release, ‘Holy Days’ will also be shown in Canadian theaters on the same day, March 27. Before its North American debut, the film will have its world premiere at the prestigious Santa Barbara Film Festival on February 5. Following this, audiences in New Zealand can catch it starting February 26, with plans for a theatrical rollout in Australia in May.
Blue Fox, acting as the film's sales agent, will be actively promoting ‘Holy Days’ to international buyers during significant industry events such as the Sundance Film Festival and the European Film Market in Berlin. The film tells the story of three quirky elderly nuns—portrayed by Davis, Weaver, and Margolyes—who embark on an unexpected road trip across New Zealand alongside a young boy, played by Tamati. Their mission? To retrieve his late mother from heaven before his father’s new girlfriend, Liz (played by Boltt), steps into her shoes.
As these characters navigate their unconventional journey, they develop an unlikely yet heartwarming bond filled with faith and friendship, culminating in a truly unique adventure. Written and directed by Boltt, ‘Holy Days’ draws inspiration from a novel by Dame Joy Cowley.
This production, a collaboration between Velvet Moss and Lily Pictures, is backed by producers Emma Slade, Michelle Morris, Victoria Dabbs, Roxi Bull, and Sushant Desai. Captured on location in beautiful New Zealand, ‘Holy Days’ has received funding support from several organizations, including the New Zealand Film Commission, New Zealand Screen Production, Telefilm Canada, Creative BC, CBC Films, and Elemental Post.
Keep your eyes peeled for this delightful film that offers a mix of humor, adventure, and heartfelt moments—it's sure to spark conversations and perhaps even challenge perceptions about life, death, and everything in between.
