Nio's Battery Swap Network: A Holiday Triumph Amidst China's Travel Rush
The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) market is buzzing with a remarkable achievement by Nio Inc. This innovative company has just conquered a significant challenge, handling over 2 million battery swap services during the hectic Spring Festival travel season. But here's the kicker: they did it with style, setting new records along the way!
From February 18 to 22, Nio's battery swap stations were a hive of activity, with a staggering 177,627 swaps on the busiest day. This surge in demand is a testament to the growing popularity of Nio's vehicles and the convenience of their battery swap network. Compared to the same period last year, Nio's average daily battery swap service during the 2026 Spring Festival soared by an impressive 29.4%.
The energy business report reveals that Nio's 3,750 battery swap stations delivered a total of 2,073,500 swaps between February 10 and 23. This success is not just a one-day wonder; it's a consistent performance, with daily service volumes increasing year after year.
And this is where it gets even more impressive. Nio's charging and battery swap facilities across China, totaling 8,676, delivered a whopping 3,271,441 services during the holiday. This represents a substantial 26.6% increase in daily average compared to the previous year's Spring Festival.
But Nio's impact doesn't stop there. From February 15 to 23, Nio supplied a massive 25,283,118 kWh of electricity on expressways, accounting for a significant 15% of China's expressway vehicle electricity consumption during this period. Talk about making a difference!
The efficiency of Nio's battery swap stations is truly remarkable. At the 720 stations located in expressway service areas, on average, a vehicle completed a battery swap every 0.5 minutes. This is a game-changer for long-distance travelers, reducing wait times and keeping journeys smooth.
Nio's strategic placement of battery swap stations is evident along expressways, with 1,022 stations near highway entrances and exits. The busiest stations, Longshan and Xianshan Service Areas, each handled nearly 200 daily services, showcasing the network's capacity to handle high demand.
This success can be attributed to Nio's expanding user base, which surpassed 1.02 million vehicles by the end of January 2026. The integration of over 130,000 vehicles from its sub-brand, Onvo, into the battery swap network further fueled this achievement. And just days before the Spring Festival, Nio celebrated 100 million cumulative battery swap services, a remarkable milestone.
