Get ready for a magical journey into the heart of Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom, where change is on the horizon! Two iconic landmarks, Big Al's and Westward Ho, are about to bid farewell, but not without leaving a lasting legacy.
In the ongoing transformation of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island into the exciting Piston Peak National Park, inspired by the world of Pixar's Cars, these two beloved spots are set to make way for the new. But here's where it gets controversial: some fans are divided over the potential loss of these long-standing attractions.
Big Al's, a treasure trove of merchandise, from coonskin caps to cowboy hats, has been a staple since 1989, during the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown era. Its unique theme, inspired by Al's cabin-turned-shop, adds a touch of magic to the shopping experience. And this is the part most people miss: it was one of the original ticket booths when the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971! If demolished, it would leave only a few remnants of the park's early days.
Westward Ho, a beloved snack stand, offers a refreshing escape with its frozen lemonade and cold brew, not to mention those mini corn dogs! Imagine strolling along the riverwalk, enjoying a bite and a sip, and taking in the sights. Soon, this experience will be a memory, as the construction walls for Piston Peak move forward, creating a temporary pedestrian pathway for parade viewing.
But fear not, the Cast Members will remain in the Frontierland area, ensuring a smooth transition. And for those curious about the future, the Disney Vacation Club kiosk in Tomorrowland and the Memento Mori facade in Liberty Square will continue to offer a glimpse into the park's past.
